Dorian Bailey plays the ball just outside the box during the second half of the Washington Spirit's 2-1 victory over Kansas City on Sept. 26 in front of 3,295 spectators at Segra Field in Leesburg.

The Washington Spirit scored the tying goal late in the first half and netted the go-ahead goal just 11 seconds into the second half to defeat Kansas City NWSL 2-1 in a National Women's Soccer League match Sept. 26 at Segra Field in Leesburg.

Playing in front of 3,295 spectators in their final game of the 2021 season at Segra Field, the Spirit (7-7-5, 26 points) overcame an early deficit to earn three points.

Kansas City (2-12-5, 11 points) opened the scoring in the eighth minute on a goal by Darian Jenkins.

Washington netted the equalizer right before halftime. After Kelly O'Hara drew a foul in the box, Andi Sullivan converted a penalty kick to pull the Spirit even at 1-1.

The Spirit made four substitutions at halftime that paid immediate dividends. One of those substitutes -- Tara McKeown -- scored her first professional goal in the opening seconds of the second half to give Washington a 2-1 lead.

Goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe and the Spirit defense made the lead stand for the remainder of the match to secure the victory.

Washington will play its final two home matches of the regular season at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The Spirit are back in action Oct. 1 at the North Carolina Courage.
