Tuscarora High School softball players rejoice after defeating Fauquier 1-0 in eight innings to claim the Region 4C softball tournament championship.

Olivia Bruns belted a RBI double in the top of the eighth inning and pitcher Lindsey Mullen closed it out in the bottom half to lift Tuscarora to a 1-0 victory over host Fauquier in the Region 4C softball tournament championship game June 16 in Warrenton.

Mullen and Fauquier starter Meghan Harrington were locked in a pitcher's duel through seven scoreless innings.

Tuscarora collected two of its three hits in the game during the decisive eighth inning. Tristen Koerner reached on an infield single to start the rally.

Mullen struck out 13 batters while allowing just two hits and one walk. She closed out the game in style, striking out the side in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Tuscarora advances to play in the VHSL Class 4 state softball tournament. The Huskies will host the Region 4D champion (Amherst or Jefferson Forest) in the semifinals June 22.
