SBHS FB runout

The Stone Bridge Bulldogs earned their second state championship in program history. Stone Bridge defeated Highland Springs 13-10 in overtime to claim the Class 5 title.

The Virginia High School League crowned state football champions in all six of its classifications May 1.

The Class 5 champion Stone Bridge Bulldogs joined Oscar Smith, Salem, Lafayette, Appomattox County and Riverheads at the top of their respective classes.

The varsity football season was contested Feb. 23 through May 1 after the 2020 fall season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

VHSL state finals, May 1

Class 6: Oscar Smith 62, South County 21

Class 5: Stone Bridge 13, Highland Springs 10 (OT)

Class 4: Salem 28, Lake Taylor 20

Class 3: Lafayette 27, Lord Botetourt 13

Class 2: Appomattox County 48, Stuarts Draft 41

Class 1: Riverheads 65, Galax 29
