Jacob Thomas state semis

Senior Jacob Thomas threw three touchdown passes -- highlighted by a 37-yard scoring pass to Zeke Wimbush as time expired -- to help lead Stone Bridge to a thrilling 27-21 win over Maury in the Virginia Class 5 state football championship game Dec. 11 in Norfolk.

Varsity football teams from Stone Bridge, Oscar Smith, Varina, Phoebus, King William and Riverheads high schools were each crowned Virginia High School League state champions Dec. 11.

Riverheads won its sixth consecutive Class 1 state title, while Class 5 Stone Bridge and Class 6 Oscar Smith both claimed their second straight state championship.


Class 6: Oscar Smith 42, James Madison 17

Class 5: Stone Bridge 27, Maury 21

Class 4: Varina 28, Broad Run 21

Class 3: Phoebus 22, Liberty Christian 14

Class 2: King William 48, Graham 21

Class 1: Riverheads 45, Galax 14
